Mangaluru: A 17-year-old girl, Hrushvi, succumbed to poisoning on November 27 after being hospitalized for several days. The incident, which occurred in Mittabagal village of Belthangady taluk, Dakshina Kannada district, highlights a tragic case of betrayal and emotional exploitation in a relationship.

Timeline of events

Hrushvi, a PUC student and minor, reportedly fell in love with her cousin, Praveen Charmadi, after they connected via mobile phone. Their relationship took a troubling turn when Hrushvi’s family learned about it, leading to a confrontation between the two. On November 20, following this altercation and Praveen’s refusal to marry her, Hrushvi consumed rat poison in despair.

She was initially treated at a private hospital in Ujire and later transferred to a private facility, KMC Attavar, in Mangaluru. Despite efforts by medical professionals, Hrushvi passed away on November 27.

Police investigation

The Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police, Yathish Kumar N, confirmed that the case is being treated as a suicide resulting from abetment. Praveen Charmadi has been booked for abetment to suicide under relevant legal provisions. He is currently absconding, and authorities are actively pursuing him.
