Newly elected Dakshina Kannada MP, Capt Brijesh Chowta, is actively consulting with experts to transform the district into a hub for trade and commerce. These discussions aim to explore proposals for a new railway line to enhance goods and passenger traffic between the capital and the coast. “Once a comprehensive road map is ready, it will be presented to the Union Minister of Railways to press for a new high-speed railway line between Bengaluru and Mangaluru,” Chowta told STOI.
Chowta explained, “We are considering various options to facilitate faster logistics and passenger movement between the two cities. This will support the growth of New Mangalore Port and trade activities.” The proposed railway line will benefit Bengaluru, Hassan, and Dakshina Kannada. “This project is crucial for the economic viability of the railways and the business community. A high-speed train connection between Bengaluru and Mangaluru will significantly benefit all parties involved,” he said.
Meanwhile, Capt Chowta plans to appoint interns to work in the MP’s office on significant projects. “We have already identified the nine focus areas outlined in the election manifesto ‘Navayuga Navapatha’, and will assign interns to each area,” Chowta said. Interns will be engaged in developing a comprehensive vision document and driving special initiatives from the MP’s office.
The initiative ‘Catch up with Captain’, launched during the election campaign, will continue. Chowta emphasized the importance of citizen engagement, encouraging people to share their views and suggestions via email at [email protected] and through regular meetings called “Samsadarondige Samvada,” where stakeholders from different sections can discuss topic-based issues. “The entire effort is to ensure people of Dakshina Kannada take charge of the development of our region for the next five years,” he said.
