Following the murder of rowdy-sheeter Suhas Shetty near Kinnipadavu under Bajpe police limits, Mangaluru has witnessed a surge in attempts to stir communal tension through social media and street violence. In response, police have filed numerous FIRs across the city under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

Two cases were registered at Mulki police station against a YouTuber and an Instagram handle. Mangaluru North police booked a case over a provocative post calling for a district-wide bandh. Urwa police acted against two Instagram profiles accused of sharing inflammatory content.

Barke police filed a case against multiple users, while Moodbidri and Mangaluru South police booked several Instagram accounts in separate cases. Kavoor police also filed two FIRs—one against a YouTube channel and another against an Instagram user. Kankanady Town and Mangaluru East police registered cases against individual Instagram accounts.

In a separate wave of unrest following the bandh call, three stone-pelting incidents were reported. Miscreants attacked five KSRTC buses in Kankanady, prompting a case at Kadri station. In Barke, a KSRTC bus near Karavali Grounds was targeted. Mangaluru North police registered a case after a private bus was stoned near KB Katte.

Three assault cases linked to the incident were also filed. In Kankanady, a man was stabbed by three attackers on Yousuf Nagar Road. In Ullal, bike-borne men tried to assault a scooterist. In Konchady, Kavoor police booked a case after a group attacked a bystander.

Police investigations are ongoing with intensified social media surveillance.
