Mangaluru police bust drug network with arrest of Nigerian national
In a major operation targeting narcotics distribution, the Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) arrested a Nigerian national, Michael Okafar Odikpo, for allegedly supplying cocaine from Goa to Mangaluru. The 44-year-old was apprehended with 30 grams of cocaine, cash, and a vehicle linked to the illegal trade.
The operation began in March 2024 when the CCB arrested two individuals in Ullal for peddling 34 grams of cocaine. The suspects revealed they sourced the drugs from a supplier in Goa, which led police to Calangute, where the investigation intensified.
During the crackdown, authorities seized cocaine, a vehicle, mobile phones, cash, and a digital weighing machine, with an estimated total value of Rs 11.25 lakh.
Odikpo, a native of Lagos, Nigeria, arrived in India in 2012 on a business visa. After a short stay in Mumbai, he moved to Goa, where he allegedly began his involvement in narcotics trade. The accused has three prior drug-related cases registered against him in Goa.
Following his arrest, Odikpo was handed over to the local police for further legal action. The operation, led by ACP Manoj Kumar Nayak with a team that included Inspector Shyam Sundar H.M. and PSI Sharanappa Bhandari, highlights Karnataka police’s intensified efforts to dismantle cross-border drug trafficking operations.
