Mangaluru: In a successful crackdown, Mangaluru Police intercepted a container vehicle illegally transporting cattle from Kerala into Karnataka and rescued 24 animals.
Acting on a tip-off regarding illegal cattle movement across state borders, the police intensified vigilance by setting up additional checkpoints along roads falling under the Mangaluru Commissionerate’s limits. Early on the morning of June 1, 2025, officers stationed near the Talapady toll gate flagged down a suspicious container vehicle.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered that the truck was packed with 24 cattle being transported unlawfully. The individual operating the vehicle was immediately taken into custody. The container truck, which served as the means of illegal transport, has also been seized.
A formal case has been filed at the Ullal Police Station under Crime No. A.Kr 82/2025. Investigations are currently underway to trace the broader network behind the smuggling operation.
The rescued cattle were promptly handed over to a registered cow shelter, ensuring their safety and care. Police officials affirmed their commitment to curbing animal smuggling and protecting livestock through proactive enforcement and surveillance.
This swift action highlights the growing cooperation between law enforcement and alert citizens in addressing illegal cattle trade across state borders.
