Mangaluru: Under the leadership of newly appointed Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy, Mangaluru police conducted a lathi drill on Monday, June 2, near the iconic Clock Tower area.

This coordinated exercise, led by personnel of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), was organized as a precautionary measure in light of recent disturbances that have heightened tensions in the region.

The city has witnessed growing unrest following two recent murders — one in Bajpe and another in Kolthamajalu. These incidents have sparked community concern and called for increased police preparedness.

The baton-wielding demonstration aimed to display police readiness and deter any possible violence or disruption, especially with a protest planned by the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). The SDPI scheduled the demonstration near the Clock Tower to express condemnation over the murder of Abdul Rehman.

The drill served both as a warning and a reassurance to the public, signaling that law enforcement agencies are on high alert and committed to maintaining peace and public order.

Authorities have increased visible police presence in key locations and are monitoring developments closely to ensure the protest remains peaceful.

The proactive move comes as part of the administration’s broader strategy to avoid escalation and prevent any flare-up of communal tension across the city.
