Mangaluru: Animal rescuer Tauseef Ahmed, founder of Mr Rescuer, has launched an initiative to distribute medical first aid kits worth ₹5,000 each to individuals who care for stray cattle and run small gaushalas without organisational backing. The aim is to ensure timely treatment of minor wounds and prevent infections during the monsoon.
Speaking about the effort, Tauseef said, “We wanted to support those who quietly take care of stray cattle out of their own interest, without seeking attention. These are people who hardly get funding for their work and do it out of pure passion.”
Contents of the first aid kits
The kits include large tubes of Betadine ointment, cotton, gauze, sprays and powders designed for topical treatment. Medicines requiring veterinary prescription have been consciously avoided to ensure safe usage.
During rescue visits, Tauseef observed untreated wounds on cows—often caused by beatings, accidents or falls—that risk severe infection during the rainy season. By distributing these kits, he hopes to address this critical gap in first response care.
Reaching out to those with limited resources
According to Tauseef, while philanthropists often support larger gaushalas, many individual caretakers and smaller shelters operate with minimal or no assistance. The initiative seeks to reach at least 10 such individuals, with six already having received kits.
“This is both a token of appreciation and an attempt to acknowledge their efforts. We are ensuring that the kits reach places where resources are scarce, rather than those already receiving abundant support,” he said.
Previous animal welfare projects
This initiative adds to Tauseef Ahmed’s growing list of animal welfare projects. About three years ago, he launched Project Suraksha, providing pet first aid kits to all police stations in the city. Under Project Reflective Collars, he distributed reflective collars to stray dogs to reduce road accidents. During summers, he runs Project Jal, supplying free water bowls for animals and birds to combat heat stress.
Conclusion
Through his latest initiative, Tauseef continues his commitment to grassroots animal welfare. By empowering small-scale caretakers with essential resources, he hopes to prevent suffering and encourage more humane treatment of stray cattle across Mangaluru.
