Navigating the streets of Mangaluru City has become a nightmare for drivers, as massive potholes have emerged across key areas. Despite the recent decrease in rainfall, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has yet to address the deteriorating road conditions in locations like Karavali Circle, Bunts Hostel, Kodialguthu Road, and the service roads near Pumpwell. Temporary repairs using concrete ready mix are being done at night, but these fixes barely last a few hours.

Social activists and local representatives have voiced their concerns, highlighting how the potholes are causing severe traffic disruptions, leading to increased congestion and delays. Additionally, roads that have been dug up for various development projects, such as the Jalasiri 24×7 drinking water pipeline, underground drainage, and cable installations, are adding to the woes of both motorists and pedestrians.

Corporator Abdul Ravoof has called on the MCC to take immediate action to fill the potholes, noting that the receding rain provides an ideal window for repairs. He emphasized that the issue of bad roads, particularly the potholes and the digging up of roads for infrastructure projects, has been a recurring topic at council meetings.

In response, MCC Commissioner Anand CL stated that an action plan has been prepared to tackle the potholes, and that interlock pavers are being laid where concrete roads are damaged. Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur has also directed all relevant agencies to restore roads that were disrupted during development works. He assured that officials will be instructed to ensure that all potholes in the city are filled as soon as possible.
