Remona Evette Pereira, a final-year BA student at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, has created history by entering the Golden Book of World Records for performing Bharatanatyam continuously for 170 hours, becoming the first in the world to achieve such a milestone.
Her extraordinary feat, which began on July 21 and concluded on July 28, surpassed the previous record of 127 hours held by 16-year-old Sudhir Jagpath in 2023. As Remona crossed the record mark, the venue erupted in emotional applause from a crowd that included her parents, teachers, and supporters.
Trained for over 13 years under Guru Sri Vidya in Yeyyadi, Remona prepared for the attempt with intense discipline — practicing 5 to 6 hours daily before and after college. Her performance was not only a test of physical endurance but also a tribute to her unyielding passion and perseverance.
Throughout the week-long performance, several dignitaries, including the Deputy Commissioner, Zilla Panchayat CEO, MLA, district minister, Bishop of Mangalore, and local corporators, visited and praised her dedication to classical art.
Remona is no stranger to recognition — she won the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar in 2022 for excellence in art and culture. She is also skilled in semi-classical, western, and contemporary dance styles, and was earlier featured in the India Book of Records and Bharat Book of Records.
Her achievement is now under official submission for global recognition and is being celebrated as a proud cultural moment for Mangaluru and India.
