Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has announced that drinking water supply across the city will be suspended on Tuesday, September 16, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Repairs and maintenance at Thumbay unit
According to the corporation’s executive engineer, the disruption has been necessitated by urgent repair works at the Thumbay water supply unit, along with scheduled maintenance activities by MESCOM. These works are being undertaken to ensure smooth functioning of the city’s primary water infrastructure.
The city depends on drinking water drawn from the Thumbe vented dam built across the Netravathi river. The Thumbay unit is a crucial link in the water distribution network, making periodic repair and maintenance essential.
Advisory to residents
The MCC has requested residents to store adequate water in advance and make necessary arrangements to manage the temporary interruption. Citizens have also been urged to use stored water judiciously until supply resumes in the evening.
Conclusion
While the disruption is temporary, the MCC has assured that such works are important to prevent larger breakdowns and ensure uninterrupted supply in the long term. Normal water supply is expected to be restored by 5 p.m. on September 16.
