The Dakshina Kannada district administration, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), and Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) are planning to set up food streets in three prominent locations in the city to enhance its vibrancy. The first food street, featuring around 27 eateries, is set to be inaugurated near Mangala Stadium.
Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur announced that MSCL will oversee the project. Stalls will be installed on land owned by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, located near Mangala Stadium. Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP has instructed the MSCL to proceed through a tender process. After the civil works are completed, food stalls will be allocated to eligible bidders. Besides Mangala Stadium, two more food street locations have been identified near Mahaveer Circle (Pumpwell) and Sharbathkatte near Karnataka Polytechnic.
Deputy Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Pradeep D’Souza, confirmed that development work has already commenced near Mangala Stadium. The site, situated between Karavali Utsav Maidan and Mangala Stadium, will see the food street developed on vacant land opposite existing permanent shops. The setup will include essential facilities like drinking water, electricity, and proper drainage, with a focus on cleanliness to attract visitors. The project aims to be completed soon, promising a new vibrant spot for food lovers in Mangaluru.
