Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader announced that the state cabinet has sanctioned two significant bridge projects for the Mangaluru constituency to address traffic congestion on NH-66 and enhance tourism in the region.
The first bridge will be constructed parallel to the Nethravati bridge, linking Kotepura in Ullal to Bolar in Mangaluru city. The bridge, estimated at Rs 200 crore, will span 1.5 km and is expected to be one of the longest in the region. Once completed, it will reduce traffic on NH-66 by 50%, benefiting residents from Bunder, Kudroli, and Bolar. The design of the bridge will offer a scenic view of the Arabian Sea. A detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared by a consultant through the Public Works Department (PWD).
Khader highlighted that Kotepura, once a business hub before the Nethravati bridge was built, will see revived importance with the new bridge. The bridge, with a 12-meter width, will also contribute to the region’s tourism potential.
Additionally, Khader shared that another bridge project connecting Sajipa Nadu to Thumbe at a cost of Rs 62 crore is underway. This bridge will offer a more direct route for residents from Arkula, Meramajalu, and Thumbe, who previously had to travel via Melkar and Bantwal.
Khader also mentioned the proposal for a footbridge between Thokkottu and Olapete to help people cross the railway line. If approved by the Railways, funds will be allocated from both his MLA LAD and the Ullal City Municipality.
Lastly, Khader touched on the ongoing investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) regarding BJP MLA Munirathna, stating that he will discuss the matter further.
