A massive tree fell on a moving bike, instantly killing the rider, Sitarama (58), near Pulikukku in Kodimbala, Keba taluk, Dakshina Kannada district. The accident took place when Sitarama was on his way home from Kadaba, reportedly bringing chicken as part of a vow.
Eyewitnesses reported that the tree suddenly collapsed onto the road, leaving Sitarama with no chance to escape. He died on the spot due to the impact.
The accident has sparked public outrage, with locals criticising the forest department for their alleged negligence in addressing hazardous trees in the area. Many residents expressed frustration, highlighting the need for regular maintenance and inspection of old trees to prevent such incidents.
Kadaba police arrived promptly at the scene to manage the situation and conduct necessary procedures. Authorities are expected to further investigate the accident, with potential measures for the removal of other trees posing a similar risk in the region.
