Mangaluru Woman Alleges Triple Talaq, Dowry Harassment
A 23-year-old woman from Ullal, Mangaluru, has lodged a complaint at the Women’s Police Station against her husband for allegedly delivering instant triple talaq and dowry harassment. The complainant, Heena Fathima, stated that her husband, Mohammad Dilfaz, verbally declared talaq thrice on November 8, following an argument.
Heena alleged that Dilfaz not only assaulted her but also maintained extramarital relationships. The couple had married on April 20, 2019, and initially shared a harmonious relationship. However, things took a turn when Dilfaz reportedly became abusive after she confronted him about his affairs. Family members attempted to intervene, but their efforts were in vain.
In her complaint, Heena revealed that her father had gifted 22 sovereigns of gold jewelry during the wedding and had given Rs 50,000 for a watch as part of the marriage arrangements. Later, Dilfaz and his father, Umarabba, allegedly demanded additional money, including Rs 8 lakh from a matured investment under Heena’s name.
The situation escalated on November 8 when Heena’s father tried to resolve the issues with Dilfaz. This reportedly led to further violence, culminating in Dilfaz pronouncing talaq and expelling Heena from their home. The complaint also accuses Umarabba of dowry harassment.
Police have filed a case under relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act, the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, and other legal provisions.
