Mangaluru Woman Loses Rs 52.9 Lakh to Fraudulent Lucky Draw Scheme

Mangaluru Woman Loses Rs 52.9 Lakh To Fraudulent Lucky Draw Scheme

A woman from Mangaluru fell victim to a fraudulent lucky draw scheme, losing Rs 52.9 lakh over the course of a year. The scam began in June last year when Shukoor, claiming to represent Chotabhai, Badabhai Zam Zam Electronic Shop, informed her that she had won a car, an iPhone, and a gold chain in a lucky draw.

To claim her prizes, she was told to pay various fees. Trusting the caller, she initially transferred Rs 30,000 on June 9.

Over the following months, she was continuously assured that more gifts were on the way and that additional fees for taxes needed to be paid. From June 6, 2023, to May 27, 2024, she transferred a total of Rs 52.9 lakh to various bank accounts provided by the scammers.

When she finally requested the delivery of the promised gifts, the scammers demanded even more money.

Realizing she had been cheated, she informed her family and friends. A case has been registered as the scammers neither delivered the gifts nor refunded her money.
