Mangaluru: A young man from Kilpadi has filed a formal complaint at the Bajpe Police Station, alleging misuse of his image on social media to spread false and inflammatory accusations.

According to the complaint by Mohammed Suhail, on the morning of June 6 around 8:30 am, he and his friend Wasim Sharif were riding a scooter towards Moodbidri. While passing by a construction site on Edapadav Road, Suhail spotted a white, transparent stone on the roadside. Thinking it would make a good addition to his home aquarium, he picked it up and held it in his right hand, while a vape device was in his left.

The following morning, Suhail was informed by his neighbour, Adil Mohammed, that a photo of him had gone viral on WhatsApp. The circulated image falsely claimed that he was holding deadly weapons in both hands. Adil also sent Suhail a screenshot of the viral message.

Upon checking social media, Suhail discovered a post on the Instagram page Karavali_tigers featuring his photo, with both hands highlighted and a caption accusing the Congress-led government and police of letting armed individuals roam freely. An accompanying Beary audio clip warned locals about a scooter allegedly carrying “stones and swords,” stoking fears of violence. The same content was found in the Ulaibettu 24/Breaking News WhatsApp group.

Suhail contends that this misinformation was deliberately spread to provoke communal unrest. Meanwhile, Barke Police are also investigating beary-legend on Instagram for posting misleading and inciteful content involving activist Sharan Pumpwell.
