Mangaluru is preparing to extend beach access into the night, offering a unique experience for tourists. The Dakshina Kannada district administration has begun installing streetlights, surveillance systems, and lifeguards to ensure safety. Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP announced that Panambur beach will be the first to open for night visitors, followed by Tannirbhavi Blue Flag beach and Tannirbhavi beach.
Although the year-end launch for Panambur beach faced delays, it is expected to open within two weeks after all safety measures are finalized. This initiative aligns with the state government’s decision to extend business hours in Bengaluru and aims to boost regional tourism. Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal expressed support for the plan, provided adequate safety protocols are in place.
Beach Festival Adds to the Buzz
As part of the Karavali Utsav, a Beach Festival will take place at Tannirbhavi beach on December 28 and 29 from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Visitors can enjoy live performances by local artists, sand sculpture contests, and water sports. Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader will inaugurate the event on December 28, while renowned musician Raghu Dixit will perform on December 29.
To accommodate the expected crowd, extensive parking has been arranged at four locations along Tannirbhavi beach road. Ferry services between Sultan Bathery and Tannirbhavi will also increase, supported by shuttle buses.
This initiative positions Mangaluru as a prime destination for year-end celebrations, with the Beach Festival planned as an annual highlight for regional tourism.
