Mangaluru: Coconut water is a go-to refreshment during the summer heat, but recently, a pink-coloured coconut spotted in Mannagudda has stolen the spotlight—and the internet’s attention.
The image of the unusually pink-hued bonda (tender coconut) was shared by a local Facebook page, sparking a mix of amusement, curiosity, and speculation. With a humorous caption comparing the coconut’s arrival to imported goods—”Like winter jackets, even red coconuts have reached Mangaluru from Indonesia”—the post quickly gained traction.
The page clarified that the coconut hadn’t been artificially coloured. Instead, it appeared to be a naturally occurring variety with a reddish-pink tint. “Maybe it turned pink out of shyness when it saw the camera,” the post joked.
As the photo circulated, netizens flooded the comments section with reactions ranging from laughter to disbelief. Some questioned its authenticity: “Is this spray-painted?” Others were intrigued: “Is the coconut water pink too, or just the shell?” and “Is this a new variety or a marketing gimmick?”
While some users firmly believe the colouring is man-made, no official clarification has been issued. Until then, the mystery of the pink coconut continues to amuse and puzzle Mangaluru’s residents—and the internet at large.
Whether it’s a genuine botanical rarity from Indonesia or an eye-catching hoax, the coconut has certainly added some colour to online conversations.
