Mangaluru: The long-standing aspiration of Mangaluru’s Muslim community for a Haj Bhavan is finally on the brink of realization. In a generous gesture, KPCC general secretary Inayath Ali has gifted 1.8 acres of land in Bajpe at no cost. The state government has already allocated ₹10 crore for the project’s construction, with more financial support promised as needed.

Earlier, close to two acres in Kenjar were earmarked for the same purpose, but technical hurdles halted progress. To break this 16-year impasse, Inayath Ali—who previously contested from Mangaluru City North—voluntarily offered part of his ancestral land to the Haj Committee. The legal formalities for the land transfer were recently finalized.

Although the total land area is 2.3 acres, Ali retained 50 cents for developing a connecting road and donated the rest. He stated that he had not intended to publicize the donation, but word spread through social media. He emphasized that the upcoming Haj Bhavan would be a shared community asset.

According to sources, the Haj Bhavan will be a modern facility costing around ₹25 crore. In addition to accommodation for pilgrims, the structure will house a prayer hall and an auditorium. The Department of Minority Welfare will begin construction work soon.

MLC Ivan D’Souza had recently raised the matter in the legislative council, prompting Minister for Haj, Rahim Khan, to confirm that the project will commence swiftly once the land is officially transferred.
