
Mangaluru’s Interfaith Gathering Pays Tribute to Late Pope Francis
Mangaluru: A heartfelt interfaith tribute was held at the Milagres Church grounds to honor the memory of Pope Francis, celebrating his legacy of compassion and commitment to interfaith unity.
The gathering saw notable speakers like Dr Mohan Alva (Alva’s Education founder), Dr Jyothi Chelar, Mohammed Monu (ex-taluk panchayat president), and Fr J B Saldanha (PRO, Mangalore Diocese) reflecting on the Pope’s humanitarian vision.
Among the dignitaries present were Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Harish Poonja, KPCC secretary Padmaraj Poojary, Minority Morcha president Anil Thomas, district BJP president Sathish Kumpala, and former minister Ramanath Rai.
Fr Walter D’Souza and his team from St Sebastian Church, Bendur led the solemn prayer service, creating an atmosphere of reflection and respect. Roy Castelino extended a warm welcome to the gathering, while Aloysius D’Souza efficiently compered the event.
The tribute began with a special mass at Milagres Church, followed by floral offerings at Pope Francis’s portrait, marking a deep gesture of reverence and solidarity across faiths.
