Mani-Sampaje Highway Set for Expansion: PWD Approves DPR for Four-Lane Road
Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta recently announced that the state government has granted approval to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for transforming the road from Mani to Sampaje on NH-275 into a four-lane highway. The MP personally requested Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satish Jarkiholi to take the necessary steps during a recent visit to Mangaluru. In response, the PWD authorized the appointment of consultants to draft the DPR for widening the 71.6 km stretch of road.
The project is set to be funded with an estimated cost of Rs 3.19 crore under agency expenses. The tender process to select the agency responsible for preparing the DPR will begin soon. The MP lauded the PWD’s swift action and noted that several major national highways in the district, such as BC Road-Addahole and Punjalkatte-Charmadi, are already undergoing upgrades.
The Mani-Sampaje highway, a crucial national route linking Dakshina Kannada to Madikeri and Mysuru, is expected to significantly improve connectivity. Once completed, the four-lane road will ease access to key locations such as the Kukke Subrahmanya temple, Mangaluru port, and Mangaluru International Airport, thereby boosting local commerce. Chowta expressed optimism that with support from local legislators, the project will be completed efficiently, marking the long-awaited upgrade of the Mani-Sampaje highway.
