In a recent environmental breach, around 300 trees were reportedly felled illegally on government land near the Moodushedde Golf Course, located on the city’s outskirts. An excavator was used to clear the trees, leading to swift action by local environmentalists and forest officials.

Members of the Netravathi Environment Conservation Forum (NECF) alerted forest department authorities about the incident. In response, officials seized the excavator and other machinery involved in the operation. They confirmed that appropriate measures would be taken against those responsible for the unauthorized tree cutting on government property.

Environmental advocates, however, voiced concerns over perceived leniency in cases involving well-connected individuals. They criticized the forest department’s slow response in such instances and called for stricter policies to prevent similar occurrences. “Stronger enforcement is essential to protect these green spaces,” one activist stated, underscoring the need for immediate reforms to deter unlawful deforestation.

Local environmentalists stressed that the forest department must prioritize rigorous measures to safeguard forests and public land from exploitation. Their demand for better regulation reflects a growing awareness of the need to balance development with environmental preservation in the region.
