A devastating fire engulfed the I-Grow Incorp coconut oil mill in Bombil, along the Bantwal-Beltangady National Highway, in the early hours of Sunday, March 9. The mill, owned by Jayaram Gowda of Kaavalapadooru village, was completely reduced to ashes.
The blaze reportedly erupted around 1 AM. Jayaram, whose residence is near the mill, noticed the flames and immediately alerted locals and the fire department. Despite the Bantwal Fire Brigade’s swift response, the mill and its contents—12 tons of coconut oil, raw coconuts, and machinery—were entirely destroyed.
The total loss is estimated to be around ₹3 crore. Jayaram suspects an electrical short circuit as the probable cause.
A case has been registered at Bantwal Rural police station, and an investigation is ongoing.
