A major fire engulfed a scrap godown in Jeppinamogaru, on the outskirts of Mangaluru, late Sunday night, reducing its contents to ashes.

The godown, owned by Nausheer of Jeppinamogaru, housed scrap materials, furniture, and electronic waste. Fire and Emergency Services received the distress call at 11:40 p.m., prompting an immediate response. Fire tenders from Kadri, Banrwal, and Pandeshwar were dispatched, followed by reinforcements from MCF and HPCL to bring the flames under control.

Although the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to determine the origin. The shop owner, Nausheer, estimates the damage at approximately ₹50 lakh, while fire officials are conducting an independent assessment of the loss.

The incident drew the attention of Mangalore City South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, who arrived at the scene to review the situation and offer support.

This unfortunate event has raised concerns about fire safety in storage facilities, highlighting the need for preventive measures and regular inspections to avoid similar incidents.
