MCC’s ‘Tiger Operation’ Targets Illegal Vendors to Clear City Roads
In a bid to reclaim public spaces and ensure smoother traffic and pedestrian movement, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) launched its ‘Tiger Operation’ on May 22. The crackdown focused on unauthorized vending and encroachments on government land, sidewalks, and roadsides throughout the city.
Major commercial areas such as State Bank, Kankanady, and Falnir witnessed the removal of illegal street vendors who had set up stalls without permission. This action comes in response to growing public grievances about traffic congestion and blocked footpaths due to unauthorized stalls.
Two days before the operation, MCC had issued eviction notices, warning vendors to vacate public spaces being misused for fast food outlets, petty shops, and storage of goods. The civic body stated these setups not only flout municipal norms but also endanger pedestrian safety and public hygiene.
MCC officials have warned that further drives will follow if illegal vendors continue to occupy public areas. Legal proceedings may also be initiated against repeat offenders.
The corporation has appealed to vendors and shopkeepers to support the initiative by following civic guidelines and helping preserve order and cleanliness across the city.
