A Mangaluru court has remanded two South African women, arrested in connection with a massive MDMA seizure, to judicial custody after seven days in police custody. City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal stated that investigators are currently analyzing technical data to uncover deeper links to the case.
Investigation Progress
The arrests have put the drug network on high alert, with police expecting the syndicate to remain dormant for the next six months. The investigative team has traveled to Delhi and Bengaluru as part of legal procedures, examined airport footage, and identified key blind spots. However, officials reported that the accused women have been uncooperative, providing repetitive and scripted responses.
“This case took months of groundwork, and a lot more investigation is needed,” Agrawal said. National agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), have sought case details from city police.
Karnataka’s Largest Drug Seizure
This case is one of Karnataka’s biggest drug hauls. The CCB wing of Mangaluru City Police, led by ACP Manoj Naik, arrested Bamba Fanta (alias Adonis Jabulile, 31) and Abigail Adonis (alias Olijo Evans, 30)—both from South Africa—seizing 37.8 kg of MDMA worth ₹75 crore.
Jail Jammer Issues
Meanwhile, signal jammers installed at Mangaluru District Jail, Kodialbail, have caused disruptions for nearby residents, office-goers, and students. Jail Superintendent Ashe Khan met Commissioner Agrawal to discuss concerns, with higher authorities set to decide on further action.
