In a shocking turn of events, a 67-year-old man from Kannur, Kerala, who was previously declared dead by a private hospital in Mangaluru, was found alive in a mortuary late Monday night.
Velluvakkandi Pavithran, a resident of Pachapoika in Kannur, had been admitted to the hospital earlier for treatment of paralysis and respiratory problems. Despite being on a ventilator, his condition deteriorated, and the hospital decided to withdraw life support. By evening, Pavithran was declared dead, and preparations were made to transport his body back to his hometown.
At approximately 6:30 pm, the ambulance carrying Pavithran’s body left for Kannur. Upon arrival, his family chose to place the body in the mortuary of AKG Hospital due to the late hour. However, around 11:30 pm, an attendant named Jayan noticed unusual movement when the ambulance door was opened. “I saw his hand moving,” Jayan recalled. Upon further inspection, they detected a pulse, prompting them to transport him immediately to the hospital’s Casualty ward.
The medical team at AKG Hospital quickly confirmed Pavithran was still alive. He was rushed to the ICU for intensive care, where doctors reported that he even responded to his name.
This unexpected discovery has left the family and hospital staff stunned. Meanwhile, questions are being raised about the accuracy of the death confirmation by the Mangaluru hospital. Doctors at AKG Hospital are closely monitoring Pavithran’s condition.
