Mangaluru: The decomposed body of a 31-year-old fisherman from Kundapur, who went missing after a giant wave struck his fishing boat on August 9, was found at Kotepura Alivebagilu in Ullal on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Narayana, a crew member of the fishing boat Ocean Star, which had set out for fishing from the Mangaluru dock.

Giant wave swept fisherman into sea

The tragedy occurred on August 9 when a massive wave struck the fishing vessel, sweeping Narayana into the sea.

Following the incident, the boat owner and Narayana’s family members had been searching for him for the past eight days. A missing person complaint was also registered at the Pandeshwar police station.

Despite the search efforts, there had been no information about his whereabouts until his body was discovered at Kotepura Alivebagilu in Ullal.

UDR case registered in Ullal

Following the recovery, the body was taken for the required procedures. The inquest proceedings were conducted at Wenlock Hospital.

The Ullal police station has registered a case of unnatural death (UDR) in connection with the incident.

The recovery brings an end to an eight-day search for the young fisherman, while the tragedy has left his family and fellow fishermen mourning his death.
