In a bid to fast-track the establishment of the Government Medical College in Puttur, MLA Ashok Rai has pressed finance department officials to complete the tendering process within 45 days and ensure seamless coordination for the project’s launch.
Rai held discussions in Bengaluru on Wednesday with finance department secretary PC Jaffer and secretaries Ritesh Singh and Vishal. He emphasized the urgency of initiating construction on the 250-bed hospital block, stating that the land survey for the site in Bannur has already been completed.
Highlighting the importance of prompt action, Rai warned that delays in the tender process could hamper the momentum of this crucial public healthcare initiative. He also mentioned that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had underlined the significance of the project during the recent inauguration of the new Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangaluru.
The MLA stressed that all procedural formalities should begin without delay, and requested complete support from the finance department to get the project underway.
In addition, Rai submitted a proposal seeking Rs 2.5 crore for the construction of two retaining walls in his constituency. Of the total amount, Rs 50 lakh is intended for retaining wall work in Nellettimaru, Panaje village, and Rs 2 crore is requested from the minor irrigation department for a retaining wall near Kumbra Markazul Huda Women’s College in Olmogeru. A formal request has been submitted to Minor Irrigation Minister NS Boseraju.
