Mangaluru City North MLA Y Bharath Shetty strongly criticized Congress leaders for what he described as hypocrisy in their response to political criticism. He pointed out that while Congress members freely use derogatory terms like “panauti” (bad omen) to insult Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they express outrage when similar remarks are directed at them.
Referring to a recent controversy, Shetty defended opposition leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, who faced backlash for using a proverb involving an elephant and a dog—an indirect critique aimed at minister Priyanka Kharge. Shetty questioned the selective outrage of Congress supporters, stating that such proverbs are part of political rhetoric and should not trigger aggressive reactions.
He further accused Congress leaders of frequently mocking BJP figures, including former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and state BJP president BY Vijayendra, showing little regard for decency in their language. “The Prime Minister holds a respected position in the nation. Yet, Congress leaders cross the line in their eagerness to attack him. But when criticism is turned on them, they react with fury and even resort to inciting their workers to confront opposition voices,” he remarked.
Shetty also expressed disappointment with the police, claiming biased behavior. He alleged that BJP workers are forced to wait long hours when filing complaints, whereas Congress complaints result in immediate FIRs. He concluded by saying, “Whether you’re a citizen, MLA, or opposition member, nobody feels secure under this Congress government.”
