Mangalore City South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath has called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to allocate Rs 300 crore to address extensive rain damage in Dakshina Kannada. Speaking to reporters, Kamath highlighted the destruction caused by heavy rains, including landslides, road damage, and crop loss. He noted that the CM announced compensation of Rs 1.2 lakh for fully damaged houses and Rs 50,000 for partially damaged houses, per NDRF norms. District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao also promised additional compensation, but Kamath urged swift disbursement to affected families.

Kamath criticized the Congress government for inadequate relief efforts, contrasting it with the previous BJP government, which provided Rs 5 lakh for fully damaged houses and Rs 10,000 immediate relief for flood-affected families. He accused the current administration of failing to address rain damage and claimed that no measures discussed in last year’s CM-led meeting were implemented.

Kamath also condemned the CM for not visiting Dakshina Kannada amidst the crisis, alleging that Siddaramaiah was preoccupied with corruption charges related to the Muda scam. He demanded clarity on compensation for livestock loss and warned of BJP MLA protests if development funds for constituencies were not released, highlighting the lack of grants over the past 15 months.
