Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai has urged the government to allocate funds for the development of Gejjegiri and Nandanabittilu, sacred sites linked to the legendary twin warriors of Tulunadu, Koti-Chennaya. He emphasized the need to transform these locations into key tourist attractions.
Rai stated that Tourism Minister HK Patil responded positively when he raised the issue during the legislative assembly session. He also proposed the development of Birumale Betta within Puttur constituency, which has already received ₹2 crore from his MLA local area development funds. Of this, ₹1 crore has been released, and work is underway. However, no funds have yet been sanctioned for Gejjegiri and Nandanabittilu. “Minister Patil assured that funds would be allocated before the next budget session,” Rai added.
The MLA further suggested exploring the tourism potential of Kudru (small islands) in Dakshina Kannada, with several hotel groups expressing interest in their development.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar highlighted the vast tourism opportunities in Karnataka’s coastal belt, including health, religious, and commercial tourism. During the legislative assembly’s Question Hour, BJP MLAs Gururaj Gantihole and Harish Poonja proposed treating the region as a special tourism zone. Shivakumar assured that a meeting with regional MLAs would be held to draft a comprehensive tourism plan.
