Dakshina Kannada: MLA Umanath Kotian raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of the Nandini River during the Disha meeting, criticizing the local administration’s failure to curb water pollution.

Pollution Threatens Kandevo Fair

The Kandevo fair, a significant local event, is traditionally held on the banks of the Nandini River. However, the river’s water quality has declined due to unchecked sewage discharge, making it unsafe for public use.

Years of Neglect & Public Outcry

Despite years of petitions and protests, local authorities have failed to act. Frustrated by the inaction, residents have planned a large-scale protest on March 4, demanding immediate measures to restore the river’s cleanliness.

MLA’s Strong Criticism

Slamming the municipality’s indifference, MLA Kotian stated that if officials refuse to act, locals will take matters into their own hands. He further ridiculed the need for water testing, challenging the authorities to drink a glass of the polluted water instead of conducting pointless assessments.

The growing unrest in the region may soon force officials to implement concrete solutions for river conservation.
