Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath convened an urgent meeting with officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), including Commissioner Ravichandra Naik and Executive Engineer Naresh Shenoy, to address multiple civic challenges troubling residents within the city limits.
The MLA expressed concern that, although the region has received substantial rainfall, drinking water shortages continue to plague several areas. He emphasized the contradiction and questioned the effectiveness of the current water management strategies.
He further pointed out that the failure to adequately clean and maintain stormwater drains has led to rainwater entering residential properties, causing distress and damage. Many residents are left struggling without any relief or support from the city authorities, he said.
A particularly troubling issue raised was the deteriorated condition of a bridge near Ballalbagh. According to Kamath, this outdated structure is obstructing water flow and triggering artificial flooding in surrounding neighborhoods. He called for immediate remedial steps to be taken to restore proper drainage in the area.
In addition to water-related issues, Kamath highlighted complaints from the public about poor solid waste management. Garbage collection and disposal services are reportedly being handled inefficiently, contributing to hygiene concerns across several localities.
The legislator urged MCC officials to treat these matters with urgency, stressing the need for prompt and practical responses to citizen grievances.
