Mangaluru: In the wake of recent heavy rainfall and flooding, MLA Vedavyasa Kamath visited several affected localities in the city to assess the situation and hear concerns from residents.
Accompanied by officials, the MLA toured Kodialbail East Road (Ward 30), Ballal Bagh Bridge, and the wet well area, where local flooding had caused significant distress. During the inspection, he directed Mangaluru City Corporation authorities to act immediately on the feedback provided by residents, addressing both the causes of flooding and the emergency work required to mitigate further damage.
Kamath criticized the state Congress government, claiming it has failed to allocate funds for even basic emergency flood relief. He pointed out that during the previous BJP administration, approximately ₹75 crore was sanctioned for building retaining walls along major stormwater drains in the constituency. However, he alleged that no such financial support is forthcoming under the current regime, leaving residents vulnerable during the monsoon season.
The MLA vowed to take up these concerns in the upcoming legislative session, pressing the state government for a long-term flood control plan and immediate financial aid for critical projects.
Kamath was joined by former mayor Sudhir Shetty Kannur, party leaders Vivek, Prashant Alva, and a number of BJP karyakartas, all of whom interacted with locals to understand their grievances.
The visit aimed to highlight the urgency of the situation and mobilize support for timely intervention and infrastructural upgrades.
