Mangaluru: MLA Vedavyasa Kamath visited the ongoing protest staged by the S.K. Municipal Employees Union (R.) in front of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on Thursday, offering support and assuring action on their demands.
After hearing the grievances of the municipal employees, MLA Kamath immediately telephoned Urban Development Department Secretary and senior IAS officer Deepa Cholan, highlighting the crisis unfolding in Mangaluru due to stalled civic services. He urged her to convene a meeting without delay to address the employees’ concerns.
Responding to his call, the Secretary acknowledged similar protests occurring in Bengaluru and assured that a discussion with local union leaders would be held on Friday afternoon.
Kamath told the protesting employees that peaceful protest is their constitutional right, but also appealed for public interest to be kept in mind. “Essential services like waste collection have been halted, causing inconvenience to Mangaluru’s residents,” he said. “Your cooperation is crucial at this moment.”
He further promised to raise the workers’ issues in the upcoming assembly session, pledging full support. “Even the ruling government admits that ongoing guarantees have slowed developmental works. While I can’t guarantee outcomes, I assure you of my honest efforts to represent your cause effectively,” Kamath affirmed.
His intervention brought hope to the protesters, as they await the government’s next move.
