At a press meet held on June 10 at the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Office, MLC Ivan D’Souza accused senior BJP leaders of attempting to erode the credibility of the police force in the district.

He alleged that on June 9, several BJP heavyweights, including the Leader of the Opposition and the state party chief, interacted with police personnel in an intimidating manner. “Such interference is unacceptable. Regardless of who is in power—BJP or Congress—the police must be allowed to operate independently,” D’Souza stated.

He criticized the BJP for selectively raising objections only when police actions don’t align with their interests. “If officers act wrongly, there are proper channels—the government, the courts, the legal system—to correct that. But BJP seems to object whether police act or don’t. What is their motive? Do they want unrest? Are they against peace and progress?” he questioned.

D’Souza urged the state government to take firm steps against BJP leaders who try to obstruct lawful policing. He also raised concerns about partiality in central investigations.

Citing recent murder cases, he asked why only the killing of Suhas Shetty was handed to the NIA. “Why not hand over all murder cases since Praveen Nettaru’s death? This selective justice raises serious questions,” he asserted.

Congress leaders including Nagendra Kumar, Amrith Kadri, Suhan Alva, and others stood in solidarity at the event.
