Mangaluru: The recent installation of a mobile jammer at the district prison in Kodialbail has severely impacted network connectivity within a one-kilometer radius, leaving residents, businesses, and professionals struggling with communication blackouts. The issue is particularly dire for Jio users, whose network has been completely disabled due to the newly deployed 5G jammer.
Doctors Warn of Medical Emergencies
Dr. Padmanabh Kamath, a cardiologist at KMC Mangaluru and a Kodialbail resident, raised alarms over the risks posed by the disruption. He recounted a case where a heart attack patient from Horanadu repeatedly tried to contact him while en route to Mangaluru. The calls failed due to the jammer, and only a postgraduate student’s personal visit ensured he reached the hospital in time to perform a life-saving angioplasty.
“If I hadn’t been informed in time, the consequences could have been fatal,” Dr. Kamath warned, urging authorities to balance jail security with public safety.
Residents Demand Alternative Measures
Locals argue that mobile detectors, rather than jammers, should be used to curb unauthorized phone usage inside the prison. They claim the current measure is disproportionately affecting the general public instead of effectively tackling smuggling within the jail.
Authorities Promise Review
Jail superintendent Ashe Khan acknowledged the complaints and assured that the matter would be reviewed with the technical team to find a feasible solution.
