Mangaluru: Tension swept through Thenka Edapadavu village near Gurupura after a monkey attacked a sleeping child inside a home near the Kundodi Daivastana. The forest department, which had been monitoring the animal for several months, successfully captured it on Sunday afternoon.
Locals reported that the monkey had been frequently seen in the vicinity of homes and temples in the Kundodi area for the past three to four months, raising fears among residents. The situation escalated on Saturday around 3 PM, when the monkey entered a house and bit a young girl named Dhrithi as she lay asleep. The animal fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Alarmed by the attack, villagers along with members of the Edapadavu Gram Panchayat lodged an official complaint with the forest department, urging immediate intervention.
In response, the department launched a capture operation the next day. A baited trap was carefully positioned near the monkey’s last known location. The plan worked, and by Sunday afternoon, the monkey walked into the trap, bringing an end to its long spell of mischief.
Authorities confirmed that the injured child received timely medical care and is now recovering well.
Grateful for the quick action, residents breathed a sigh of relief and lauded the forest officials for resolving the issue before further harm could occur.
