Mangaluru – Torrential rains on June 16 wreaked havoc across several areas of Mangaluru taluk, damaging infrastructure, inundating homes, and forcing families to evacuate due to severe waterlogging.
In Kandavara gram panchayat, the old airport road connecting Bajpe and Adyapadi via Bailubidu has developed cracks after becoming waterlogged. With the road surface now unstable and dangerous for motorists, Panchayat Raj department engineers conducted inspections. Authorities have temporarily closed the route to ensure public safety.
In Merlapadavu–Adyar Padavu, erosion beneath a concrete stretch has led to visible fissures, sparking concerns about the road’s structural integrity. Consequently, traffic has been halted in the area.
Delanthabettu village, part of Surinje gram panchayat, witnessed artificial flooding as the Nandini River overflowed. Fire and emergency personnel assisted in relocating three affected families to safer locations.
In Kemmanjur, under Adyar gram panchayat, floodwaters entered multiple homes following the relentless rain.
Within Mangaluru City Corporation limits, a house in Derebail was fully destroyed, while two others were partially damaged. Additionally, four homes in Attavar, Arkula, Muloor, and Padukodi experienced minor damage. Near the National Highway in Vikas Nagar, three homes were inundated.
A landslide in Dayambu, Kannur village, pushed rainwater and mud into nearby residences, prompting the evacuation of two households.
According to the tahsildar’s official report, no casualties or livestock losses have been reported in the taluk.
