Mangaluru: With intermittent rainfall continuing in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, health authorities have noted a noticeable rise in seasonal ailments such as colds, coughs, and fevers—especially among children.
Although the rain has now become sporadic, alternating with cloudy skies and sunshine, the lingering moisture and stagnant water have created ideal conditions for viral infections. Clinics are seeing more pediatric cases, prompting swift response from the health department.
Preventive Action:
Door-to-door surveys have been launched to detect early symptoms and raise awareness. Schools have been advised to maintain hygiene, and teachers are observing students for any illness. Migrant labour camps are also under scrutiny, with landlords ordered to ensure proper health screenings.
Dengue Warning:
The mosquito-borne dengue virus is making a cautious comeback. While cases remain lower than last year, stagnant water has made mosquito breeding rampant. So far, 70 dengue cases have been reported in Dakshina Kannada district.
