A Mangaluru woman has revived her quest for answers regarding her daughter who went missing over two decades ago. On July 15, 2025, Sujatha Bhat, along with her legal counsel, submitted a fresh petition to the Superintendent of Police, urging a comprehensive probe into the 2003 disappearance of her daughter Ananya Bhatt.
Ananya, an MBBS student, had vanished under mysterious circumstances after visiting the Dharmasthala temple. Despite earlier investigations, the case remained unsolved, leaving the family in anguish and uncertainty. According to officials, Ananya was last seen in the vicinity of the temple complex before she abruptly went missing, and all attempts to trace her proved unsuccessful.
Sujatha Bhat’s renewed complaint requested that authorities reopen the inquiry and conduct a thorough re-examination of the evidence. She emphasized that her daughter deserves justice and the truth must come to light, no matter how much time has elapsed.
The District Superintendent of Police acknowledged receipt of the complaint and assured that a detailed investigation would commence promptly. SP Sadri confirmed that based on findings, necessary legal measures will be initiated.
The case has resurfaced amid broader discussions about pending missing person files in Karnataka and the need for more accountability. The family hopes that renewed efforts will finally uncover what happened to Ananya Bhatt and bring them long-awaited closure.
