Surathkal: A road accident involving a car and a motorcycle near Surathkal on the outskirts of Mangaluru left three youths injured, one of them seriously, on February 6, 2026. The injured have been admitted to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

According to initial information, the accident occurred when a car rammed into a motorcycle at speed, causing a heavy impact. The force of the collision threw the riders off the two-wheeler and onto the road, resulting in multiple injuries.

Bike rider shifted to ICU with serious injuries

Police and local sources said the motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries in the crash and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close medical monitoring and treatment. Doctors are continuing evaluation and care.

The two other youths involved in the incident also suffered injuries but are reported to be out of danger. Their injuries are described as non-life-threatening, and they are undergoing treatment and observation.

All three injured persons have been admitted to Mukka Srinivas Hospital, where emergency care was provided soon after the accident.

Impact threw riders off the vehicle

Witnesses said the collision was forceful enough to knock the motorcycle off balance immediately on impact. The riders were thrown several feet from the vehicle, leading to head and body injuries.

Local residents and passersby rushed to assist the injured and helped arrange immediate transport to the hospital. Quick response by bystanders is believed to have helped ensure faster medical attention.

The damaged motorcycle and the car involved sustained visible damage in the crash.

Police inquiry likely

Traffic authorities are expected to record statements from the injured and witnesses to determine the exact cause of the accident, including vehicle speed, lane position and possible negligence.

Officials are also likely to review whether helmets and other safety measures were in use at the time of the collision. Further legal action will depend on the outcome of the preliminary inquiry.

Rising concern over suburban road safety

The Surathkal–Mukka stretch and surrounding outskirts of Mangaluru have seen increasing vehicle movement in recent years due to institutional, industrial and residential growth. Residents have repeatedly raised concerns about speeding and risky driving along certain corridors.

Road safety advocates stress the need for stricter speed enforcement, better signage and greater rider awareness to reduce such accidents.
