BJP MP Brijesh Chowta has criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s visit to Mangaluru, stating that it should not be a mere symbolic gesture but one that delivers concrete development plans and addresses long-standing local concerns. At a press conference at the BJP district office, Chowta accused the Congress government of exploiting Mangaluru’s image for electoral gain by branding it as a communal hotspot, which he said has hindered investment and growth in the region.
“Is Mangaluru just a stage for Congress’ political theater?” Chowta asked, stressing that the people of Dakshina Kannada deserve real governance, not “appeasement politics.” He questioned the CM’s refusal to consult with local representatives, calling it a sign of political arrogance and disrespect to democratic norms.
The MP claimed that repeated labeling of Mangaluru as communal has led to socio-economic setbacks, and demanded permanent, actionable solutions from the state government. He also criticized the Congress for excluding BJP MLAs and MPs from peace meetings during critical incidents, labeling it as a blow to cooperative federalism.
Highlighting the Suhas Shetty murder case, Chowta demanded answers as to why the case hasn’t been handed over to the NIA, questioning the state government’s motives and transparency. He accused Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao of blocking the probe and Sweekar Khader of prematurely absolving suspects.
Chowta concluded by urging the Congress to shed divisive politics and instead focus on employment, development, and communal harmony in coastal Karnataka.
