Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta has appealed to the Urban Development Department for swift action to upgrade a congested section of Airport Road between Marakada and Maravoor Bridge. In a letter addressed to Urban Development Minister B.S. Suresh, he emphasized the need to widen the existing two-lane segment, which remains a critical bottleneck amidst the otherwise four-lane Airport Road.

The MP highlighted that the 1-kilometre stretch under Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) jurisdiction experiences regular traffic snarls, increased commute time, and heightened risk for commuters—especially those en route to Mangaluru International Airport. Despite its short length, this narrow patch significantly disrupts smooth travel and poses safety hazards.

Capt. Chowta underlined the strategic relevance of this road as the key approach route to the airport. He urged the department to expedite the process of converting the two-lane road into a four-lane concrete stretch, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity from the city to the airport.

In the interim, he requested immediate road maintenance measures—specifically filling potholes and resurfacing the worn-out section—to improve ride quality and prevent accidents. These short-term steps, he stressed, are essential for public safety until the full expansion project is undertaken.

The request aims to enhance road infrastructure, reduce travel delays, and improve overall accessibility for residents and airport users.
