Narcotics Found Among Mangaluru Undertrial Prisoners in Surprise Raid
Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal reported that 40 undertrial prisoners at the district prison tested positive for narcotic drug consumption. The confirmation came after a recent raid on the prison led to the discovery of 25 mobile phones and several sachets of Ganja.
In response to these findings, authorities conducted narcotic drug tests on 110 out of the 389 undertrial prisoners. The testing revealed a significant issue of drug abuse within the facility.
The raid and subsequent testing were part of a broader effort to crack down on illicit activities within the prison. Sources have indicated that the remaining prisoners will also be subjected to narcotic drug tests to ensure a comprehensive assessment of the situation.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the security and management of the district prison. The presence of mobile phones and drugs suggests lapses in oversight and highlights the need for stricter measures to prevent contraband from entering the facility.
Police Commissioner Agarwal emphasized the importance of maintaining a drug-free environment within the prison and ensuring the safety and rehabilitation of inmates. He assured the public that stringent actions would be taken against those found involved in smuggling contraband into the prison.
The authorities plan to implement more rigorous screening and monitoring processes to prevent future incidents and maintain order within the prison. The ongoing investigations aim to identify and address any systemic issues that may have contributed to the breach of security.
