New DC Office at Padil Spurs Demand for Direct Bus Connectivity
With the relocation of the Deputy Commissioner’s office and nearly 30 other government departments to the newly built Praja Soudha in Padil, Mangaluru, calls for improved public transport connectivity are intensifying.
Earlier, the old DC office’s close proximity to the State Bank bus terminal made it easily reachable from all taluks of the district. However, with the shift to Padil, commuters from places like Ullal, Moodbidri, and other urban areas are now forced to take two separate buses to reach the new administrative hub.
In response to mounting public requests, KSRTC’s Mangaluru division has committed to enhancing access. Rajesh Shetty, Senior Divisional Controller, stated that all future buses introduced under new permits will be routed via Padil to ensure seamless connectivity with the new DC office.
He added that a significant number of KSRTC buses already run from the State Bank terminal toward destinations like Puttur, Dharmasthala, Uppinangady, and Vittal. These will now be complemented with new services from Talapady, Surathkal, Mulki, Moodbidri, and Karkala, all redirected through Padil.
At present, buses from Karkala pass through Moodbidri and Nanthoor to enter the city. Going forward, the proposed route will shift to Nanthoor–Kankanady–Pumpwell, eventually reaching Padil. Buses covering Surathkal to Farangipete will also include Padil in their itinerary.
Additionally, new services will be introduced from Talapady through Pumpwell, Padil, Maroli, and Nanthoor, providing direct access to Praja Soudha from multiple directions.
