Mangaluru: With the onset of the monsoon, newly appointed Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan HV has prioritized proactive disaster management to avoid loss of life and property. Speaking on Thursday, he said immediate steps will be taken to address flood-related issues, particularly in forest-adjacent populated areas.

Darshan noted that he has already reviewed damage reports from past floods and road connectivity concerns. Emergency response mechanisms will be strengthened following hazard assessments. He also stated that under the leadership of Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Anandh K, gram panchayat-level monitoring is in place, with Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) playing key roles in disaster vigilance.

While the weather department predicts limited rainfall over the next 4–5 days, Darshan emphasized the importance of coordinating across departments to prepare for heavy showers ahead.

Expressing his enthusiasm about his first posting in Dakshina Kannada, Darshan praised the district’s reputation for effective governance and community engagement. He plans to familiarize himself with local needs and opportunities in the coming days and will hold review meetings with major departments.

He also requested public cooperation, similar to the support extended to his predecessor, Mullai Muhilan MP.

When asked about his long-term strategy for handling communal sensitivity in the region, he declined to comment immediately, stating he had just taken charge. However, he assured that law enforcement authorities have already acted to maintain peace in the district.

Farewell to DC Mullai Muhilan
