Newborn with critical heart condition successfully operated at AJ hospital
AJ Hospital has successfully treated a newborn with pulmonary stenosis, a serious congenital heart defect. Born via lower segment cesarean section (LSCS), the baby underwent a specialized balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty (BPV), performed by Dr Prem Alva, a renowned pediatric cardiologist with expertise in non-surgical treatments for heart defects.
Timely detection and care
The baby’s congenital cardiac disease was detected antenatally, prompting immediate action. The delivery was successfully managed by Dr Aarthika Shetty, ensuring the baby’s safe arrival. Following the delivery, Dr Shreekrisha GN, the admitting pediatrician, provided crucial care during the baby’s initial management and ongoing recovery.
Minimally invasive procedure
Dr Prem Alva’s expertise in BPV ensured a successful outcome, enabling the newborn to avoid the risks associated with open-heart surgery. Dr Suhas, the cardiac anesthetist, played a key role in maintaining the baby’s stability during the procedure.
Remarkable recovery
Post-procedure recovery has been positive, with the baby thriving under the attentive care of Dr Akshatha Shetty, the intensivist, and the vigilant support of the PICU team. The Cathlab team showcased exceptional coordination during the procedure, ensuring a seamless experience.
This successful treatment underscores the advances in minimally invasive treatments for congenital heart defects and reflects the dedication of the entire AJ Hospital team, offering hope to families facing similar challenges.
