Newborn with critical heart disease successfully treated at AJ Hospital
Mangaluru: AJ Hospital and Research Centre has successfully treated a newborn with critical pulmonary stenosis using a minimally invasive balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty (BPV) procedure. The life-saving intervention was performed by renowned pediatric cardiologist Dr Prem Alva, avoiding the risks of open-heart surgery.
A Complex Case Managed with Expertise
The congenital heart defect was detected antenatally, prompting an immediate lower segment cesarean section (LSCS) by Dr Aarthika Shetty to ensure a safe delivery. Post-birth, Dr Shreekrisha GN, the admitting pediatrician, played a crucial role in initial stabilization and ongoing care.
During the BPV procedure, Dr Suhas, the cardiac anesthetist, ensured the baby’s stability, while Dr Akshatha Shetty, the attending intensivist, meticulously monitored the recovery process. The Cathlab team and PICU team provided essential post-operative care, ensuring a smooth recovery.
Advancing Pediatric Cardiac Care
The successful treatment underscores the hospital’s expertise in non-surgical solutions for congenital heart defects. With a remarkable post-procedure recovery, the baby is thriving, offering hope to families facing similar conditions.
AJ Hospital continues to pioneer advanced, minimally invasive cardiac treatments, reaffirming its commitment to providing world-class pediatric cardiac care in Mangaluru.
